Channels there are cheap to create, easy to abandon, and hard to trace once the operator switches to a burner account. It also means the person in your DMs has no reputation to protect and nothing to lose.

What tends to happen after payment

Three outcomes cover most of it. You pay and receive nothing. You receive card numbers that are already dead because the real cardholder disputed the charge or the issuer shut the account. Or you get drawn into a second-stage scheme where your own crypto wallet, identity documents, or accounts become the target. I have yet to see a credible account of a buyer who came out ahead.

Legal exposure is real and it is not small

Buying, selling, or holding stolen card data is a federal felony with prison time measured in years, plus fines and restitution. Prosecutors do not need to prove you used the numbers. Intent to traffic is enough. Card networks and banks keep transaction records that outlive any Telegram channel, and those records are what get subpoenaed.

• Freeze or cancel the card and request a new number, not just a new card.
• Dispute every charge you do not recognize, in writing.
• Change passwords on banking and email accounts and turn on two-factor authentication with an app rather than SMS.

• Report it to the FTC and file a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center.

The merchant side

Businesses that accept cards absorb most of this cost. Tokenization, address verification, and PCI DSS compliance reduce how much card data you ever store, which lowers the odds that a breach turns into sellable inventory. A shop that sells card numbers is a symptom of weak data handling somewhere upstream.

Bottom line
