What Is a CVV Shop?

A CVV shop is an illegal online marketplace where criminals sell stolen credit card data, including card numbers, expiration dates, and CVV codes. These shops often advertise a high success rate or approval rate to attract buyers.

No CVV shop is legitimate. All transactions involving stolen card data violate federal and international laws.

How Do Fraudsters Claim High Rates?

Fraudsters use fake testimonials, bogus uptime statistics, and refund policies to convince buyers they will receive valid card data. They often resell the same stolen data to multiple buyers, which leads to conflicts and chargebacks.

High-rate claims are marketing tricks. In reality, most CVV shops provide dead or low-limit cards, and many are exit scams that disappear after collecting payment.

Why Should You Avoid CVV Shops?

Buying CVV data is a federal crime in the United States, punishable by imprisonment and heavy fines. Law enforcement agencies actively monitor these underground shops and conduct coordinated take-downs.

Even if you don't use the data yourself, merely attempting to purchase it can result in criminal charges. Identity theft and financial fraud also cause devastating harm to victims.

What Are the Legal Consequences?

Under the U.S. Identity Theft and Assumption Deterrence Act, the penalties can include up to 15 years in prison. The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act also apply to CVV trading.

International cooperation, such as through Interpol and Europol, has led to arrests of both sellers and buyers across borders. Prior convictions often involve jail time of several years, plus restitution to victims.

What Should You Do Instead?

If you are concerned about the safety of your own payment data, use fraud alerts, monitor your credit report, and report suspicious activity to the Federal Trade Commission. For legitimate business needs, consult proper payment processors and merchant services.

Protecting yourself and others from fraud is the only responsible choice. Avoid any engagement with CVV shops, regardless of promised rates.
