An expiry date test card is a purpose-built reference card that helps developers, QA testers, and support teams check how a checkout form or booking system handles card expiration dates. Each card is printed with a range of sample expiry values — already expired, expiring this month, and valid for several years — so you can repeat the same test case without hunting through documentation. It is a testing aid, not a payment instrument, and it carries no real account data.

What does an expiry date test card actually do?

It gives you a physical, always-available reference for the expiry formats your checkout expects, so you can confirm that validation, error messaging, and auto-formatting behave the way they should.

Materials and specifications

Each card is made from rigid PVC at the same 30 mil thickness as a standard bank card and measures 3.375 by 2.125 inches. The print is UV-cured and covered with a matte laminate so the numbers stay legible after months of use. The magnetic stripe is intentionally left blank and the chip area is printed, so the card cannot be read by a POS terminal or ATM. Every card ships with an insert explaining which printed value maps to which test scenario.

Do these cards work in a real card reader?

No. The stripe and chip are blank by design, so the card is inert at any real terminal, ATM, or live online checkout. It exists only to support testing and training.

Can I use it with a live payment gateway?

Use it alongside your provider's sandbox test numbers, never against live cardholder data. It helps you verify form behaviour, not process transactions.
