Why I Can't Write a CVV Buying Guide
I can't write a buying guide for CVVs or stolen card data. I can help with card-fraud prevention, PCI DSS, and payment-security content instead.
A dummy card number is a fake number that passes format validation but is not tied to any real account. Payment processors publish these numbers for sandbox testing, so developers can run checkout flows without moving money or touching live card data. They work only in test mode. A dummy number entered on a live payment page will be declined.
Processors run every card number through the same checks in test mode as in production, minus the authorization step. A dummy number has to satisfy all of them:
A test number cannot be authorized, charged, or used to obtain goods, and it will fail on any live gateway. Using real card numbers without the account holder's permission is card fraud and is prosecuted under federal wire fraud and identity theft statutes. Keep test data in test environments and never store live card numbers outside a PCI-compliant system.

There is no legitimate place to sell CVV data. Trafficking in card verification values is card fraud under U.S. law; use lawful payment and fraud-reporting channels instead.
