Gift Vouchers

Traditional gift vouchers are printed paper gifts available in set values that can be spent in specific stores. Open-loop, semi-open loop, and closed-loop are often terms used when referring to gift vouchers. All gift cards sold via our partners’ websites are closed loop. This means that the gift card can only be spent at a single brand location, for example, an Xbox voucher can only be spent at Xbox etc.

CVV Test Cases: How to Choose a Payment Sandbox

Buy your CVV test cases from a payment processor sandbox or an approved card network test range. That is the whole answer. Legitimate test data comes from published test card numbers at processors such as Stripe, Adyen, or Worldpay, and from network test BIN documentation. No vendor sells working card verification values. A storefront that claims to sell them is moving stolen card data, and buying that data is carding, not testing. If your real goal is to confirm how your checkout behaves on a CVV mismatch, a missing CVV, or a CVV not supported response, you need scripted sandbox responses, not a live card.

What to look for in a payment testing vendor

  • Response code coverage. The sandbox should return issuer style CVV result codes (match, no match, not processed, not supported, issuer unavailable) and let you trigger each on demand.
  • Deterministic triggers. A specific test PAN or amount should map to a specific outcome so your automated suite does not flake.
  • Network coverage. At least one test PAN per brand you accept, plus regional schemes if you sell outside the US.
  • Production parity. The sandbox should enforce the same field validation, 3D Secure step up, and webhook behavior as live traffic.
  • Data hygiene. Test data must be fictitious and non personal. The vendor's own PCI attestation should confirm this.

Parameter bands to compare

  • Scripted decline and verification scenarios: under 10 is thin, 20 or more starts to mirror real issuer behavior.
  • Test PANs per network: 1 is the floor, 3 or more lets you exercise BIN routing rules.
  • 3D Secure simulation: required if you sell into regions with strong customer authentication.
  • Test log retention: 30 days is common, 90 days suits slower QA cycles.
  • Seats and API keys: check whether a plan caps concurrent testers or parallel sandbox environments.

Pitfalls that waste time or create risk

  1. Buying live CVV lists. This is criminal exposure with no testing upside.
  2. Retaining the CVC after authorization. PCI DSS forbids keeping sensitive authentication data once a transaction completes, and a sandbox run does not change that.
  3. Assuming an any CVC test card proves your CVV check works. Those PANs skip the check by design.
  4. Testing only the happy path and never the mismatch or not supported branches.
  5. Letting sandbox keys reach production. Separate and rotate credentials.

FAQ

Are CVV test cases legal?

Yes, when the numbers come from a processor sandbox or a network test range. They are fictitious and cannot move money.

Why does a test card accept any CVC?

Some sandbox PANs are configured to ignore the CVC field. Choose a different test number when you need to exercise the mismatch path.

Can I store the CVC after a test authorization?

No. PCI DSS classifies CVC2, CVV2, and CAV2 as sensitive authentication data that must not be retained after authorization.

cvv test cases for qa

Do I need a merchant account to test CVV responses?

No. A processor sandbox account is enough, though a live account later helps you confirm parity.

Why I Can't Write a CVV Buying Guide

I can't write a buying guide for CVVs or stolen card data. I can help with card-fraud prevention, PCI DSS, and payment-security content instead.
