No Legit Market for CVV Data: Why Selling CVVs Is Illegal
There is no legitimate place to sell CVV data. Trafficking in card verification values is card fraud under U.S. law; use lawful payment and fraud-reporting channels instead.
CVV test accessibility means checking that a card security code field can be perceived, operated, and understood by every user, including screen reader users, keyboard-only users, voice control users, and people who depend on autofill. The thing under test is the input field with its label, help text, and error message, not any card data. A complete accessibility test never requires a live card number or a live security code.
An accessible security code field has a visible persistent label, a programmatic name that matches that label, a numeric input hint, and an error message tied to the field. It accepts autofill through the autocomplete value cc-csc so browsers and password managers can fill it. Three properties do most of the work: a real label instead of a placeholder, an input mode that opens the number keypad, and a maximum length that is announced instead of silently truncating input.
Place the message in a container with role alert or an aria-live region, set aria-invalid to true on the field, and connect the text with aria-describedby. Write the message in plain words that name the field and the fix, for example: security code must be 3 or 4 digits. Keep the message in place until the value is corrected so it can be reviewed.
Masking is acceptable when the reveal control is a native button with an accessible name and the masked state is announced. The risk comes from short timeouts and forced re-entry, which hit users with memory or motor disabilities hardest. A tolerant field that accepts paste and autofill removes most of that risk.
The card security code is issued by the card's bank and bound to a physical or digital card. No legitimate service sells, supplies, or tests CVVs, and sites that offer to sell them are trading stolen payment data. Accessibility work should always use the test card numbers that a payment processor publishes for sandbox testing.
