Why I Can't Write a CVV Buying Guide
I can't write a buying guide for CVVs or stolen card data. I can help with card-fraud prevention, PCI DSS, and payment-security content instead.
A credit card validator test checks whether a number passes format rules: the Luhn checksum, the expected digit count, and the issuer prefix. That is all it proves. It does not tell you if the card is open, funded, or belongs to the person typing it. If you are building or testing a checkout form, that distinction is the whole game.
Most validation libraries run through the same handful of rules:
Notice what is missing: any contact with a bank. A number can pass every one of these checks and still be closed, stolen, or fake.
Every major processor publishes test card numbers for its sandbox. Stripe, PayPal, Adyen, and Braintree all document them, along with cards that trigger specific decline codes. I keep a small set in the repo: one clean approval, one insufficient funds, one expired card, one that requires 3D Secure. That covers the branches my code actually has to handle.
Do not test with real customer numbers, and do not test with numbers you found somewhere. Pulling live card data into a dev environment is a PCI problem and, depending on where the data came from, a legal one.
Only an authorization request through a processor answers whether a card works. Tools that advertise live card checks are usually running small authorizations against a merchant account they may not be allowed to use, or they are collecting numbers. Either way it is not something a legitimate integration needs, and running auth checks on cards you do not own breaks card network rules and PCI DSS.
Format validation is cheap and worth doing well. Just do not mistake it for a check on whether the card is good.

There is no legitimate place to sell CVV data. Trafficking in card verification values is card fraud under U.S. law; use lawful payment and fraud-reporting channels instead.
