Why I Can't Write a CVV Buying Guide
I can't write a buying guide for CVVs or stolen card data. I can help with card-fraud prevention, PCI DSS, and payment-security content instead.
A CVV is the three- or four-digit security code printed on a payment card. It exists to prove that whoever is typing it is holding the physical card. When someone advertises CVVs for sale on a Telegram channel or a carding shop, they are selling access to payment accounts that belong to other people. Buying that data is not a gray-area transaction you can research your way into safely. It is card fraud, and in the United States it is prosecuted under statutes covering unauthorized access device trafficking, identity theft, and wire fraud. There is no reputable marketplace, no escrow service, and no review site that can make the purchase lawful.
The practical consequences are not abstract. A fraud conviction can affect employment screening, housing applications, professional licensing, and immigration status. Banks also maintain internal fraud records that follow a person across institutions long after a case closes.
Legitimate needs get legitimate tools. Businesses that want to verify card data use tokenization from a payment processor, which replaces the card number with a reference value so the raw CVV never touches their servers. Developers testing checkout flows use sandbox card numbers issued by processors for exactly that purpose. Anyone who needs to accept cards can apply for a merchant account and get compliant infrastructure without ever seeing a real customer CVV.
Report it to your card issuer immediately, ask for a replacement number, and place a freeze or fraud alert with the major credit bureaus. In the United States you can file a report with the Federal Trade Commission and, for internet-facilitated fraud, with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center. Those are the channels that actually recover money and stop the accounts from being reused.
I can't write a buying guide for CVVs or stolen card data. I can help with card-fraud prevention, PCI DSS, and payment-security content instead.
There is no legitimate place to sell CVV data. Trafficking in card verification values is card fraud under U.S. law; use lawful payment and fraud-reporting channels instead.
