Braintree Test Card v10: No Official Card, Safe Sandbox Steps

Braintree does not publish a test card named “v10.” The term is not part of the official Braintree test card list. For sandbox testing, use a documented Braintree test card number, set the expiration date to any future date, and enter any CVV. The sandbox returns a result based on the card number and the test settings, not on a “v10” label. If a tutorial mentions a “v10” card, treat that as the tutorial’s own label, not a Braintree standard.

Steps

  1. Sign in to the Braintree sandbox control panel.
  2. Confirm the account is in sandbox mode. Do not use production credentials.
  3. Choose a documented test card. Common sandbox numbers include Visa 4111111111111111, Mastercard 5555555555554444, and American Express 378282246310005.
  4. Enter any future expiration date, such as 12/2030.
  5. Enter any 3-digit CVV for Visa, Mastercard, or Discover. Enter a 4-digit CVV for American Express.
  6. Submit the test transaction and note the response code, message, and transaction status.
  7. Open the Transactions page in the sandbox control panel and verify the result appears.
  8. Repeat with a decline test card if you need to test failure handling. Use a Braintree-documented decline number, not a real card.

What to check after the test

Confirm that the transaction status matches the test card you used. Check the response message for the expected approval or decline reason. Verify that the payment method appears under the customer record if you attached the transaction to a customer. Review webhook delivery if your integration depends on asynchronous payment events.
